4 Kinds of Training to Improve Employee Development

Every business should strive to retain a professional and dedicated staff who will help the brand live up to its potential. Training is a simple and effective way to help your employees continue to gain valuable skills. Here are four key training models dedicated to employee development.

Leadership Training

You might be surprised to learn that only about 30 percent of employees today feel that they have someone in their workplace who encourages them to hone and develop their skills on a regular basis. If this is the case, the leaders at these companies have little hope of progressing past what author John Maxwell characterizes as the “position” level of leadership—that is, the employees follow because they must, not because they want to. Sales Training

As retail software begins to overtake legacy POS systems, sales reps will need to be trained on the new software. Often, this entails a deeper understanding of the products offered. It’s up to management to ensure that each member of the sales department understands how to operate the system efficiently and to provide the consumer with the product that best suits their needs.

Soft-Skills Development Training

When it comes to business, don’t underestimate the value of communication skills and a strong set of ethics. For example, some states require alcohol-safety training courses for individuals who work in an establishment with a liquor license. By being proactive about certification and safety training, you can avoid any legal issues that might arise later on

As you move forward, you’ll find that some of these training models are better suited to group sessions, while others might require one-on-one contact. The particulars aren’t important, as long as your staff is able to remain current on industry standards while contributing to the growth of the company.
